I don’t tend to post much personal stuff here as I presume that my life and its ups and downs is of no great concern to anyone outside my immediate family and close friends. I am suspicious of the motives of those who are having such a wonderful life on Facebook when I know the reality, and am always reminded of two of the works of the late Danny Kaye, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and The Emperor’s New Clothes.
So what’s this about? I have been ill, sick, under the weather, poorly, firing on less than the full 4/6/8 cylinders (take your choice). I am better now but I realise that I have been off the boil for way more than 3 weeks, since before my last but one visit to the UK which started on January 15th.
What’s been wrong? I won’t bore you, nothing at all sinister – so no drama. Perhaps not helped by a touch of Churchill’s Black Dog but certainly not attributed directly to it.
Why bother to write about it? Because I have given less than 100% to what I was doing and feel that I might have let people down and failed to follow through. In sports terms I have probably fumbled, dropped the ball – and then argued with the referee.
So if you wondered what the hell I was playing at, where were the blog posts, the ezine, the articles for publication, the reply to emails, the invoices and follow ups that’s my excuse. Also lacking was exercise I have taken a couple of walks this week and realised how long it is since I did anything. I just about clung on to my re-found mediation routine (thanks RH) which has helped push the switch back.
Hell I wasn’t even upset by the game in Cardiff, I can’t have been right!
In case you’re fearing an “I will survive” moment…
…thanks Bruce, for being there…
